Originally I was going to try and find a former topic about pranks to bring up this story, but I figured it was way down who knows how many pages, so I'll just start my own. So, have you ever started an internet or e-mail prank? I can tell you one that at least I initiated the idea and a friend of mine actually put the thing together. See, I totally loathe e-mail chain letters. It's not just the forwards themselves I dislike, but it's the attitude of total reverence so many people have towards them, as if the material is so much more superior just because it jerks tears or is all smiley and huggy about itself. So I was on an e-mail list and I got the idea that a list should be started called blind-forwards. See, at that time, I knew of a lot of e-mail lists that had the word blind in the name, so I was kind of spoofing that as well. The rules of the list were that you could only send forwards to the list. You could not write anything yourself, and you were also encouraged to keep all the headers in the e-mails intact, just for added spice. So a friend of mine actually went and created the list on Yahoogroups, just to see if anyone would join, and we worked up an e-mail to be sent on all the e-mail lists where blind folk hung out. Well, some 20 or so people joined, but of course, only a few of them actually sent stuff, especially this one guy. I joined for a bit just to see what was being sent, and to send my own chain letter parodies, which I suspect went right over people's heads. I think we deleted the list after a while, but it sure was an interesting sort of social experiment.
I hate chain e-mails. Had I gotten one of yours, I'm sure I would have deleted it even before determining it was a gag.
To answer your question, I have never started an internet gag. Interesting idea though.
As many weird things as I've done in my past, I can't say that Internet Pranking is one of them. Would be kind of amusing though. Hmmm... Maybe Louis can help me. He's my Computer Genius half. TTFN...
